WINDOW REPAIR (INSULATED DOUBLE PANE GLASS)

Many people ask us, “What’s an insulated unit?” An insulated unit is a “double-pane” window. Insulated units keep homes warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. They provide an economical way to protect your home, apartment, or building from varying temperatures.

These two panes of glass in the unit are sealed around their edges creating one unit. When replacing the unit, both panes of glass will need to be replaced due to them being sealed together. Some units can have a low-e coating on the glass or argon gas in between the panes, which we can also provide to match a customer’s current unit along with muntins (grids) in between the glass. WINDOW REPAIR (SINGLE PANE GLASS)

If your single pane storm window or wooden sash window has the glass broken in it, bring the frame or sash in to the office and we can get you a price on a repair or contact us to schedule the removal. Once the window is brought in to be repaired, it usually takes about a day or two for our guy in the shop to fix it up and get the window back. We can also replace some broken hardware such as slide-bolts, corners, or window cranks.

For single pane wood sash windows, we will clean out the putty holding the old glass in and wood putty a new piece into the sash. Once finished, the window can be placed back into the home but would need roughly a week until the putty is completely dry and ready to be painted. See project photos.

WINDOW SCREEN & DOOR SCREEN REPAIR

At Dubuque Glass and Aluminum we offer window screen and screen door repairs. If your screen is worn or torn, we can replace it with a fiber, aluminum, or pet screen. Pet screen is a material which holds up better than fiber or aluminum if a pet is to claw and scratch at it.

If your current spline (material around the screen frame which holds the screen in) is deteriorating or is a metal spline, we will need to install a new spline into your frame. To get your screen repaired, bring it in to the office and we can determine what needs to be repaired or replaced.
