REPLACEMENT WINDOW GLASS

Estimates at Dubuque Glass & Aluminum are always free. A member of our team will evaluate your windows and existing glass and provide you with an estimate for replacement and installation of the new glass. Replacement of old glass in older windows is a great affordable alternative versus purchasing new windows and replacing the entire window.

After the initial inspection, measurements and approval of the estimate, your project will move into our production que. If the window sash is removed and brought to our office, typical turnaround time is a few days for single pane windows.  For double or triple pane windows, the timeframe extends to approximately two weeks. Having the glass replaced in the facility by bringing in the sash will help to reduce cost. However, our experienced team can schedule to remove your window and reinstall it once the glass has been replaced.

A window grid pattern is the decorative lines which are between dual pane windows. The grid lines create the appearance of smaller windows. These are often called French windows or muntins.

Typically, if your home was built after 1978 you more than likely will have dual pane insulated windows. A dual pane window will have a spacer between two panes of glass and often filled with argon gas between the panes. The panes may also have a Low-E coating on them.

Yes, because the dual panes are sealed and often contain Argon gas between the panes, one compromised pane requires replacement of both panes to ensure the proper insulation capabilities of the window.

Argon gas does not conduct heat as well as air. Therefore, the gas is an excellent insulator when used between two panes in the window. Argon gas filled windows also prevent a buildup of frost at the bottom of the window during colder weather. These benefits help to reduce heating a cooling costs in the home of business.

Low-E (also known as low-emissivity) glass helps to minimize the amount of infrared or UV (ultraviolet) light which penetrates through your glass without reducing the amount of light. Low-E glass windows contain a thin, microscopic, transparent coating which also helps to reflect heat.

Tempered glass is often known as safety glass. The glass goes through a special heat-treated process which causes the glass to break into tiny pieces versus larger shards when broken. Tempered glass is generally four times stronger than regular glass (also known as Annealed glass) and often required by law in some locations such as doors, showers, table tops or glass locations closer to the ground.

Laminated glass is similar to tempered glass (safety glass) but for one main difference, it contains a lamination (middle layer) which holds the glass in place if it were to break.

Commercial glass is often thicker than regular glass. The large glass panes in commercial buildings are customized to serve as windows, doors, structural walls, cubical partitions and more. The production process must strictly adhere to industry standards and regulations to ensure the safety and welfare of the building occupants.

Minor damages like small scratches in tint film and hard-to-open windows may require simple repair without the need for replacement of the glass pane. However, damage such as large cracks in the glass, deep scratches on window surfaces, and loosely installed windows and glass panes require replacement. Any signs which show unstable glass warrant immediate replacement. Contact Dubuque Glass & Aluminum for an onsite inspection and free estimate immediately if you believe a section of glass in your commercial building has been compromised to help protect the health and safety of the building occupants.

SHOWER GLASS AND SHOWER DOORS

Dubuque Glass & Aluminum specializes in custom shower door glass installation. Our shower installations fall into two categories: framed and frameless. This notes the amount of metal used in the installation of the glass shower as well as the thickness of the glass. Framed showers typically have metal around most of the glass while a frameless shower glass has only clips and hinges.

All of our doors are made custom to fit your unique shower and come in many different glass types and hardware finishes. Our heavy glass shower doors are 3/8″ thick glass and can be a slider, frameless, or have a header.

Our standard shower doors are 1/4″ thick glass and can be a slider, semi-frameless, or framed. We will work with you to help customize your shower glass and hardware to create the shower you imagine.

We stock and can special order several dozen finishes and styles to match any interior décor palette. Whether you’re looking for a knob or an entire matching set of towel holders, hinges, brackets, knobs and handles, we can help. Some common finishes such as chrome, brushed nickel, oil rubbed bronze and matte black we may have in-house.

The term heavy glass generally refers to glass which is thicker than 3/8 of an inch. Typically, frameless shower doors and glass panels are 3/8 inch thick. Thicker glass such as 1/2 inch thick can also be installed, but typically not used as often.

No, currently we do not have a showroom to examine our shower enclosure systems. However, we have a robust portfolio of images you can view on this website or our social media pages on Facebook or LinkedIn. See something you like, stop in or give us a call and we can discuss the project and provide you with a free estimate.

Traditionally pattern glass products have been used to obscure vision areas requiring privacy but allowing virtually the same light transmission as clear glass. The level of obscurity depends on the pattern which has been imprinted into the glass as it is made. This process of rolling the still hot and soft glass imparts a three dimensional texture to one side. The opposite side is relatively flat. The most common use of pattern glass is office screening, decorative partitions, rest room facilities, patio furniture, shower doors and entryways.

Dubuque Glass Company carries a wide variety of pattern glass with an 1/8” thickness and some allowing a 1/4″ thicknesses. We can provide a single cut size lite or case quantities depending on your needs.

No, we’ll take care of that for you. When your shower is ready to measure for shower glass contact us and we’ll schedule a member of our team to for onsite measuring. Your shower is ready to measure when the tile or other material has been set permanently into place on all the surfaces that the glass will come in contact with.

Once you have determined the type of shower enclosure (frame or frameless) and your glass pattern and all measurements have been completed your materials are placed into production and/or ordered from our suppliers. Depending on our current production and installation schedule, as well as vendor turnaround timeframes, once the order is placed, you can anticipate a 2-3 week timeframe.

At Dubuque Glass & Aluminum we make owning a beautiful glass shower simple and easy. Our 5-step process is designed to provide you with the assurance your new shower will be designed, engineered and installed professionally and provide the long term beauty and durability you’d expect.

Step 1: Planning & Design

Determine the design and allow your contractor to complete the space you envision for your new glass shower.

Step 2: Measuring

When the tile or other material has been set permanently into place on all the surfaces which the glass will touch, the shower is ready to measure for your new glass. When our technician comes to your home, they will measure the enclosure area for glass using specialized measuring equipment, review your design options, and show you photos of similar style showers from our portfolio catalog.

Step 3: Prepare Quote

After measuring and the selection of your shower components (knobs, hinges, handles etc.) our team will get to work preparing your quote and can email or drop off and review in-person typically within 24-48 hours.

Step 4: Placing Order

Once you review the quote and approve our estimate to move forward, we place your materials on order with our vendor partners and begin the production process of cutting and manufacturing your custom glass shower. We will also work with you to determine and schedule the installation date.

Step 5: Installation

Our crew will arrive on the agreed upon installation date and install your new, custom glass shower enclosure. Typically, installation will take about 2-4 hours, and your shower will be ready for use the following day.

Glass shower doors are typically 28-30″ wide. This width allows for plenty of room to enter into your shower while ensuring the door is able to swing clear of any possible obstructions. Wider doors can also be quoted and installed.

The most common height falls between 72-78 inches. The height of a custom shower glass enclosure typically will vary based of the design aspects of the shower (frame or frameless), sliding or swinging door, ceiling height, flooring thickness etc.

The shower door hinge is typically located on the same side as the shower controls. This allows easy access to the controls while keeping you out of the water spray.

No. A custom walk-in glass shower does not need to have a door. The design and layout of your shower enclosure and drain system will dictate whether or not you need a glass door to protect the rest of the room from water overspray from the shower. See our portfolio for glass shower images of various sizes and types of walk-in showers.

Not at all. We recommend projects such as Rain X  Shower Door Cleaner and Rain X Shower Door Water Repellent to help keep your shower glass looking new. An all-purpose squeegee is also a great tool to remove the water from your glass after you shower. This will help prevent calcium build-up and water spots on your glass.

COMMERCIAL WINDOWS, DOORS AND STRUCTURAL GLASS

Yes. Dubuque Glass & Aluminum sells and installs removable mullions which are very durable, low-cost mullions designed for use with rim exit devices on standard and fire rated pairs of doors. The unique design of the latching head allows the mullion to be removed in seconds with one key turn, and then to be snapped back into place without needing the key.

OTHER GLASS NEEDS

No, we specialize in residential and commercial glass installation and replacement. We are also experts in installing framed and frameless shower glass enclosures, interior structural glass systems, glass handrailing, custom wall mirrors, glass backsplash and more. Additionally, we offer custom cut Plexiglas® and Lexan® which is often used in agricultural buildings, farm equipment, ATVs, boats and more.

Yes. Dubuque Glass & Aluminum sells and installs Plexiglas and Lexan. We offer Plexiglas (acrylic glass) and Lexan at different thicknesses and cut to your size. Lexan is stronger than Plexiglas but Plexiglas is a cheaper plastic. We carry 1/16″, 1/8″, and 1/4″ clear plexiglass and 1/8″ and 1/4″ clear Lexan. Thicker pieces like 1/2″ plexiglass are available for us to order from our suppliers. We carry clear plexiglass in house but can get different colors from our supplier. If you are looking for a specific color or tint of plexiglass, we will work with you to match and supply it. If you need us for the installation, we can do that too!

Yes. Dubuque Glass & Aluminum can measure and cut new replacement glass for your furniture, curio cabinet, coffee table, entertainment center door and more. Simply bring in the door, cabinet or piece of furniture and our team will measure and replace the glass. We will match the style and coloration of the glass as close as possible. This process can take a few days or a few weeks depending if we have to special order a specific type of glass as the replacement or replace with our existing in-house stock of annealed (not tempered) glass.

We typically will hang a standard 1/4 inch mirror on walls. At Dubuque Glass & Aluminum we can cut mirror to the dimensions you are looking for. If you have a shaped mirror, bring the old one into the office and we can try to match the existing pattern or shape. If your mirror isn’t going into a frame, we can seam the edges for you so the edges are not sharp and offer either J-Bar or Mirraco Hangers to hold your new mirror in the desired location.

The J-Bar option for hanging your mirror is, in most cases, something we would come to your location to install. This is due to having to place the mirror in between the two pieces of set J-Bar and gluing the mirror to the wall. Mirraco Hangers are easier to handle and are not something we would have to install unless you would like us to. These are simply screwed into studs in the wall and the top clips of the hangers are removable to slide your mirror into its position. Mirraco Hangers come in different sizes for different lengths of mirrors; we provide 16″, 24″, 28″, 36″, 42″, and 54″ hangers. We can also get beveled mirrors to your custom bevel size and mirror dimensions. We are able to get beveled 1/8″ mirror with the only option for a bevel being 1/2″. Our 1/4″ mirrors have more options for bevels such as 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 1-1/2″, etc. If your mirror needs a hole drilled into it or a cutout for an outlet, we have that covered too.

Yes, we can measure, cut and install a backsplash for your kitchen, bathroom etc. We can also help with the customization of the colors and design for the backing.

Yes. Most glass tops for furniture are 1/4 inch thick and typically Annealed or tempered glass. This thickness provides beauty and protection without the weight or additional cost of thicker glass. A Dubuque Glass & Aluminum we can measure and custom cut a glass top to match nearly any size and shape needed.
